Anulom Vilom

अनुलोम विलोम

Alternate nostril breathing that balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain, promoting calm and improved cognitive function.

Anulom Vilom, also known as Alternate Nostril Breathing or Nadi Shodhana, is a pranayama technique that involves breathing through one nostril at a time while closing the other with your fingers. "Anulom" means with the grain (natural order) and "Vilom" means against the grain (reverse order).

This technique is one of Bal Lahoti's daily practices. He teaches that alternating the breath between nostrils helps balance the two hemispheres of the brain, leading to improved focus, reduced anxiety, and better overall brain function. The practice also helps purify the energy channels (nadis) in the body, promoting better circulation and a sense of deep calm. Bal recommends this as an excellent practice for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
